A translation of a modern book-length life of the Buddha, by the greatest literary figure of 20th Nepal, Chittadhar Hridaya, from Newari to English. It was composed while the author-poet was in prison for publishing in his native language. Interpretive chapters show how the work is an extraordinary artistic creation in the Sanskritic kavya poetry tradition; they show how the original is both a traditional devotional composition as well as a reflection of Buddhist modernity. The back cover of the book, uploaded, has a more expansive treatment. The first edition won two international prizes, one for the "best translation in the field of Buddhism" (Khyentse Foundation) and "the best book in the field of Buddhist studies (Numata Foundation).
