Integrating Gerontological Content into Advanced Practice Nursing Education

Carolyn Auerhahn

The intended audience for this book is faculty in all non-gerontological advanced practice nursing (APN) programs. It is "must-have" resource given the changes in population demographics (aging of the Baby Boomers), proposed changes in the regulation of APNs, and potential changes in accreditation of APN programs. The audience includes not only adult and family but also acute care, women's health, psychiatric mental health, holistic, palliative, pediatrics, and other specialties. Graduates of all these programs have the potential for caring for older adults, whether directly as a patient or indirectly as a family member or caregiver. Therefore, it is mandatory that gerontological content be included in the curricula of these programs.

This book will facilitate the integration of much needed content about care of older adults into their curricula by faculty in non-gerontological APN programs. It provides clear "user-friendly" guidelines written by APN faculty for APN faculty.
