This fall, I'll be publishing my very first novel: SOMETHING CLOSE TO NOTHING (Amble Press | November 12). It's a darkly funny look inside the troubled relationship of one Instagram-perfect, interracial gay couple, Jared and Wynn, who break up on the way to Cambodia, where their future daughter is being carried by a surrogate. I wanted to write about two queer characters who have a very different reaction to the pressures to conform to a normative lifestyle and let them be messy and authentic and make bad decisions on the page.
"Tom Pyun’s SOMETHING CLOSE TO NOTHING is a candid, funny, and shocking dissection of the relationship between one of those gay couples that look perfect in their social media posts. You know them and somehow you don’t know them because they don’t truly know themselves. I just couldn’t put this book down once I started it. Pyun has a talent for hitting us with gut punches that turn into belly laughs.”
