Join Columbia College Women for a conversation with Ruby Ryba CC’16, author of How to Stop Scrolling: A Clear Path From Phone Dependency to Digital Empowerment, in conversation with Krista Kohler SEAS’14.

In How to Stop Scrolling, Ryba explores how we can build a healthier, more intentional relationship with our phones and our attention. Drawing on her background as a Columbia-trained statistician, former New York City high school math teacher and screen time strategist, Ryba brings a practical and thoughtful perspective to the intersection of habits, optimization, psychology and intentional living. Her framework is built around three core principles: practicing self-compassion, designing environments that support the behaviors we want and replacing unwanted habits with meaningful alternatives.

During this CCW Author Series conversation, Ryba and Kohler will discuss what our scrolling habits can reveal about our needs and environments and how small, intentional shifts can help us reclaim our time and attention. The conversation will also explore Ryba's path from statistics and teaching to writing, the research and experiences that shaped the book, and practical ways to be more deliberate about how we engage with technology.
