Happy Holidays from the CAA

December 19, 2018

What a year we’ve all had: building, bonding, and belonging. Let’s take a look back at what we’ve done as a community in 2018...

  • 12 changemakers became the inaugural class of Obama Foundation Scholars.

  • Countless Physicians and Surgeons students will have the opportunity to graduate debt-free, due to the generosity of Dr. P. Roy ('54PS) and Diana Vagelos ('55BC).

  • 20 trailblazing alumni and student innovators topped Forbes' 2018 “30 Under 30” list.

  • 1 alumnus (Arthur Ashkin '47CC) won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his groundbreaking laser physics research.

  • On Columbia Giving Day 2018, over 2,000 new donors joined the 32,000 generous Columbians who have participated in Giving Day.

  • 115 Regional Clubs and Shared Interest Groups hosted 774 events for alumni and students across the globe.

  • 11,900 joined our 350,000-member alumni network. Thank you for being a Columbian and part of this University community.

  • 6,747 connections were made online, when alumni followed the CAA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Thanks!

  • 2,270 came together for She Opened the Door, the first Columbia University women's conference, featuring Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg '59LAW.

  • 2 teams won national championships (Archery and Lightweight Rowing). 2 is also the number of consecutive Ivy League titles achieved by Women's Cross Country -- Men's Tennis captured their 5th straight title and Men’s Squash won the Ivy League for the first time in School history!

On behalf of the CAA, best wishes this holiday season and have a Happy New Year!
