Duo MFA Now Required for Alumni Lionmail Access

March 10, 2023

Starting March 2023, alumni logins to Columbia’s Lionmail service, as well as logins to most other Columbia University online resources, will require an additional step: the use of Duo Multifactor Authentication (Duo MFA). Duo MFA uses a smartphone app to provide an additional layer of security on top of your password. With Duo MFA, your data is protected even if your password is compromised.

Duo MFA will be required for ALL Columbia University alumni who have Lionmail accounts (@columbia.edu). Once enabled, you will also need to use Duo just about everywhere you log in with a UNI, including but not limited to logins for the Alumni Online Community, transcript requests, and digital library resources.

The use of Duo MFA for alumni will be phased in over the next few months starting with those alumni who are using the University’s Lionmail system. Please be on the lookout for an email from Columbia University’s Information Technology team (CUIT) detailing timelines for Duo MFA implementation and instructions for downloading and successfully utilizing Duo MFA.
